WORKSHOP: Slowly Slowly
The Cultural Centre’s next Artist in Residence Wendy Morrow is a Hobart based performance maker who has a lifetime of working with the body, teaching and training teachers of movement and dance.
A 1974 graduate from the Australian Ballet School, Wendy was a dancer with the Monte Carlo Ballet, The Scottish Ballet, the Sydney Dance Company and a founding member of Danceworks in Melbourne.
As a first generation independent dance artist she has worked with Australia’s most influential makers in new dance; working with professional dance companies, independent artists and teaching at most tertiary arts institutions around Australia. She has performed and studied dance and improvisation in New York, Europe and London, received numerous grants from both state and federal arts agencies and in 2004-06 was a Fellow of the Australia Council for the Arts.
For over two decades she has been working collaboratively with media/sound artist Leigh Hobba to create multi-media performance installations. Their current project, River will be presented in the 2020 Unconformity Festival in Queenstown, Tasmania.
Her personal practice combines yoga, image based moving and improvisation. She has studied and specialise in various somatic techniques including the Alexander technique, Feldenkrais Method, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen – Body Mind Centering, and contact improvisation.
As a movement therapist and educator she has extensive experience working 1-1 and in groups with pain management, rehabilitation and injury prevention.
Members of the community can benefit from Wendy’s experience in her workshop Slowly, Slowly, which will be held at the Currie Town Hall on Saturday 14 March from 2-4pm.
