Vegetation Trimming Under Powerlines

In recent weeks, Council has received some public inquiries regarding vegetation trimming along Old Grassy Road and Council’s role in relation to these works.

The vegetation trimming has been undertaken by contractors for Hydro Tasmania, as part of its maintenance program. The works are necessary to protect power lines from potential damage and bushfire risks and to maintain power supplies.

The law is clear that Hydro Tasmania has the authority and responsibility to trim vegetation under powerlines, without reference to Council. Further information about Hydro Tasmania’s policy regarding clearing of vegetation is available on their website here:
