State of Emergency – what does it mean?
The Tasmanian Premier, Peter Gutwein yesterday declared a State of Emergency, allowing the Government to enact powers so we can respond appropriately to the current COVID-19 crisis. The State Emergency Management Centre has been in operation for a number of weeks, with Health operating as the lead agency, however the declaration means Darren Hine as State Controller will now take overall control. Commissioner Hine will work with Dr Mark Veitch the Director of Public Health, exercising the powers under the Emergency Management Act and allocating resources from different departments as and when they are needed.
