Warning – Damaging Winds
For people in King Island, Furneaux Islands, Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East,
East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands Forecast Districts.
Vigorous northwesterly airstream ahead of a cold front will start to develop in parts of the western half of Tasmania onWednesday evening and moving eastward during the night. The front will contract to the northeast during Thursday morning, then clear later in the afternoon. Winds will shift more westerly behind the front.
DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 100 km/h are expected to develop about the east coast and western highlands of Tasmania during Wednesday evening.
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS will then extend across the state during early Thursday morning, with peak gusts of around 110 km/h possible about higher ground.
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS with peak gusts of around 120 km/h are possible for a period during Thursday morning about the east coast, including Swansea.
DAMAGING WINDS are expected to contract the northeast of the state during late Thursday morning, then clear later on Thursday afternoon.
