Rates reminders

On King Island, where we have the second lowest number of rateable properties in all of Tasmania, rates represent our second largest source of income at 28.85% (FY18/19). Revenue raised through the collection of rates provides funding for a broad range of Council activities and services, with our ability to fulfill these on behalf of the community dependent on their payment.

Ratepayers have the option to pay rates in full or in four installments throughout the year (August, November, February and April), with reminder notices sent via posts or email one month prior to each installment due date.

The use of Tas Collection Service is not the first port of call for Council, in the collection of rates. It is, unfortunately, a necessary step in the collection process for some.

Any ratepayer who may, or is likely to, experience difficulty with meeting the standard quarterly payment is encouraged to contact Council’s Rates Officer to discuss alternative payment arrangements per Council’s Rates and Charges Policy.
