Currie Courts Improvements
Summary
Council was granted funding through the Community Development Grants Program in 2022 for the development of a new Community Gym, improvements to the Currie tennis and netball courts, and development of associated car parking. After confirming a design for the community gym, a tender was issued to identify a suitable construction contractor in October 2023. Despite a quantity surveyor estimating the cost to build this facility was within the available budget, the tenders received were significantly above this amount.
At its ordinary meeting in December 2023, Council resolved to not proceed with the construction of a community gym, and instead direct committed Commonwealth funding to further improvement of the Currie Courts. This includes replacing the fencing around all five courts, resurfacing and line marking four hard courts for tennis, pickleball, netball and basketball, and resurfacing one court with synthetic turf suitable for informal soccer games.
Work on the courts will be delivered in two stages, with fencing and sythentic turf completed in September 2024 and re-surfacing of hard courts scheduled for early 2025.
