One Hundred Thousandth Bottle Crushing
Council today hosted members of the King Island District High School’s Green Team to witness the 100,000 glass bottle being crushed at the Waste Transfer Station.
Council would like to thank the Green Team who back in 2019 initially met with Council to present their ideas on managing waste on King Island. One of the outcomes was the reintroduction of the use of the glass crusher. Not only does this reduce the amount of waste ending up in land fill but the crushed materials will be used in the making of roads and concrete footpaths for the island.
The Green Team has also been successful in receiving grant funding from both King Island Council and Hydro Tasmania for further initiatives including the production of a website, design and installation of signage promoting reduce, reuse and recycling.
