Mayors Christmas Message

As your Mayor and on behalf of King Island Council I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas 2022 and a Happy New Year for 2023.

In recent years the resolve of our great Island has been tested by numerous unforeseen challenges, we have shown Australia that we have passed that test. Now King Island is roaring back, regaining our confidence and getting our economy firing again, all of which bodes excitingly well for our future.

Christmas is all about family and although we rightly consider ourselves one big family on King Island, I trust you will savour the time spent together this Christmas. Many have returned home to King Island for Christmas and many are visiting tourists, either way great to have you with us here in country heaven.

Remember your neighbours also, some will be lonely, a can of beer or sausage passed over the side fence can really make a difference for people. For Golfers I authorise 5 shots taken off your final round score across the Christmas-New Year holiday period.

Have a restful break across summer and recharge because in 2023 King Island is headed to the next level. Lastly, please check and note changes to Council services over Christmas, via this newspaper and our website. The Council chambers will be closed from 12.00pm on 23 Dec 2022 and reopen 3 Jan 2023.

Merry Christmas and take care.

Mayor Marcus Blackie
