Payments

Rates & charges contribute to a range of services, projects and infrastructure for the community.

Rate levels are set through a rigorous budget process of review and consultation each year, where Council seeks to balance the demand for services and infrastructure with the community’s capacity to pay.

Making a payment

The amount payable may be made by four instalments or may be made in full and should be paid on or before the first instalment date. Instalments must be paid when they fall due. Instalment notices will be issued 30 days prior to the instalment due date.

In person

Simply present your rates notice with your payment to the Council Office at 10 George Street, Currie between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

BPAY

Council accepts BPAY payments from cheque or savings accounts. The BPAY reference number is located on the front of your rates notice. Please note that each property has a unique assessment number. Multiple properties must be paid separately.

By mail

Mail your cheque, money order or credit details to Council with the payment advice (bottom of rates notice). If paying by credit card, please complete the credit card authority on the reverse side of your rates notice and return it to: King Island Council, PO Box 147, Currie TAS 7256.

By phone

To pay your rates over the phone please call the Council Office on (03) 6462 9000 during business hours. You will need to provide the assessment number from your rates notice and credit card details.

Late payments

Overdue rate instalments are subject to late payment penalties and interest. If you are experiencing financial hardship, it may be possible to pay your rates outside the normal due date, however interest and penalty charges may apply. Contact us to apply for an arrangement or to discuss your options.

Receive rates notice by e-mail

If you would like to have your rates notice emailed to you, rather than posted, please download a Rates Email Registration Form. You can return the completed form to either kicouncil@kingisland.tas.gov.au or PO Box 147 Currie TAS 7256.

Please note that if you choose to get your rates notice emailed you will not receive a paper copy.

Pensioner Rate Remissions

Pensioners as at 1 July of each financial year are entitled to a State Government rebate on Rates of 30 percent up to $449. This applies only to pensioner’s principal place of residence, provided they satisfy the requirements of the State Government.

A remission is available to a person holding a:

  • Pensioner Concession Card (PCC),
  • Veterans Affairs Gold Card (TPP), or
  • Health Care Card (HCC) (but excludes Senior Health Card).

Council deducts previously eligible Pensioner Remissions from rates prior to issuing notices, but require new pensioners, pensioners who have recently relocated to King Island, or any pensioner who believes he/she should have been eligible for a Rate Remission, to complete the Pensioner Application for Rates Remission Form.
