Citizenship Ceremonies
Are you ready to make being an Australian Citizen official?
The King Island Council’s role in the citizenship process is to conduct citizenship ceremonies and to present attending candidates with their citizenship certificates.
Prior to being eligible to take part in a citizenship ceremony, you must have completed your application process with the Department of Home Affairs and have received your letter of approval. The King Island Council receives candidate lists detailing those candidates who have received citizenship approval and are eligible to attend a ceremony.
Making the citizenship pledge is a formal ceremony conducted by the Mayor or Deputy Mayor of King Island. At the Citizenship Ceremony, you will also be encouraged to complete an electoral enrolment form which registers you on the electoral roll and allows you to vote. Candidates are welcome to invite family and friends to their ceremony.
The Council can conduct citizenship ceremonies as required throughout the year, or you may choose to become a citizen through an Australia Day Ceremony. Candidates can arrange their ceremony date by contacting Council.
