King Island Airport Emergency Management Exercise
An emergency management exercise will be conducted at Loorana and the King Island Airport, 102 Morrison Avenue, Loorana on Wednesday 26 February 2020 between at 6.00pm and 9.00pm.
Residents and members of the public should not be alarmed by the training exercise and the heightened level of activity by the emergency services in the vicinity of the Airport.
Every two years, the King Island Council, as the Airport owner, is required by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to conduct a field exercise to test the Airport Emergency Plan.
The exercise will test the emergency response to an aircraft accident on land adjoining the Airport.
The Island’s emergency personnel and volunteers will be involved in the exercise.
Tasmania Police is the responsible management authority in the event of such an incident with support and assistance provided by ambulance, medical, firefighting and SES services.
The exercise provides an excellent opportunity for emergency services to practice and refine their response to real emergencies in what will be a lifelike but safe environment to do so.
The exercise has been planned so there will be no disruption to regular scheduled passenger flights.
