Hospital Renovations Restart Announced
The Health Department has announced that renovations to the King Island Hospital and Health Centre will re-commence next week after being suspended during the COVID-19 emergency.
The Chair of the Municipal Emergency Management Committee, Mayor Julie Arnold, has welcomed the decision and the return of VOS Constructions, their employees and sub-contractors to complete the renovations.
‘The Department’s decision to suspend the works coincided with the COVID outbreak in Burnie and while it was a prudent decision, it did create practical difficulties and concerns for hospital staff’, the Mayor explained.
‘We are extremely grateful for the dedication, hard work and professionalism of our medical, nursing and support staff during this difficult period.’
‘The Emergency Management Committee and Council look forward to the renovations being finished as quickly as possible and for the island to have our hospital fully up and running again’, the Mayor said.
The Mayor reminded the community that while the general easing of COVID-19 restrictions allows all residents and travellers greater freedom, everyone shares a responsibility to strictly follow the COVID-19 public health and safe work place rules.
