Public Safety Cameras – Community Consultation

The Regional Towns Community Safety CCTV Project was initiated by the Tasmanian Government in 2021 to improve community safety within Tasmanian regional towns. This state government-funded initiative has already seen installation commencing or being completed in many councils throughout Tasmania.

The introduction of CCTV in some public spaces on King Island aims to enhance community safety and security. By addressing concerns about privacy, cost, and potential misuse, we aim to implement a system that benefits everyone. Your feedback and support are crucial to the success of this initiative.

The focus of the current proposal for the CCTV program on King Island will be at the airport, with one additional camera covering part of the Main Street in Currie, and one camera at the Currie Oval.

Please take some time to have a look at the Community CCTV Briefing Sheet and incorporated Field of View attachments and respond to Council with any feedback.

Feedback on this initiative is welcome now and will close at 4.30pm Monday, 22 July 2024, to allow staff to collate this information for consideration by Councillors at a Councillor Workshop and subsequent Council Meeting.

We’d love to hear from you!
