Priority improvements for Island’s network
Telstra Tasmania’s Area General Manager and National Mobile Manager were on Island last week discussing priority improvements in the Island’s Telstra network.
In addition to a public consultation session on Thursday evening, Telstra met with representatives from Council, Cape Wickham Links, SES, Ambulance TAS, Naracoopa Progress Association, King Island Tourism Inc, TasHydro and the Chamber of Commerce. These discussions raised the possibility of a funding application to place mobile antennas in the Island’s emergency response vehicles.
Planned upgrades to the towers at Counsel Hill, Loorana, and Grassy will be completed by the end of the year. These works will also enable an increase in the capacity at Cape Wickham, improving coverage and capacity for the north of the Island.
The information gathered on this visit will be used to build a business case for funding required to take the Island’s communications to the next level. Development of that business case will be in part funded by the $20,000 gifted during the February election by State Government.
